One Night in Olso

We're drinking shooters?! Well, these were excellent. Robert, the owner at Front, on the harbor in Oslo came up with this remarkable new drink the night before. It is so simple, yet so balanced it is destined to become a classic.
The bartender who made them for us simply pulled a bottle of vodka out of the freezer, poured a line of shots, and squeezed lemon juice into each one (love her hands-on approach!). She then dipped each side of a lemon wedge into sugar she had poured onto a small plate and set the sugared wedge on top of the shot, where the juice instantly started melting the sugar into the shot like a modern twist on an absinthe spoon. As we watched, the lemon sugar dripped and swirled into the icy, syrupy vodka. Then, in a shot--bite the lemon, gulp the vodka-- it was gone. And in traditional Norse fashion, another round arrived.
The name of this adult confection? They were calling it the Lemon Shot, or the Heavy Drop. We have our own name for it: Sticky Fingers.
Out the window that night, nature was putting on a show as well. The full moon rose up from the hills, illuminating the boats, the sheet ice that blanketed the harbor (frozen salt water--that's cold), and backlit the castle. I've stood on the same spot in early summer, maybe half an hour later, with the sky still bright enough that the street lights hadn't switched on.
